With the last and final installment of IGF-01 underway, whoever takes this round wins the match. With both competitors whipped, exhausted, and low on stamina, only pure determination will be deciding factor in who gets to go home victorious. Saki took the first round with her signature submission while Ryo fought back in the second round with a KO victory. Who has the better strategy? Let’s find out...
The round opens with Ryo trying for several kicks but hitting only air each time. Saki takes advantage of these missed techniques, bringing Ryo down to the mat.
Saki puts applies the forearm choke.
Ryo reverses quickly, going for a choke of her own.
Saki reverses right back, putting Ryo in a headlock.
She sinks in the technique, laying flat on the canvas while maintaining the hold.
Ryo muscles her way out, mounting Saki and grabbing a fistful of hair.
“Hanase yo! - Let go!” Saki utters out, panting from fatigue.
Ryo taunts her before standing up to catch her breath. A couple of stomps sends Saki back to the canvas, but Ryo doesn’t have enough in the tank to continue the onslaught. Both competitors stand across each other, taking in heavy gasps of air.
In an instant, Ryo flies in with a kick, connecting with Saki's midsection.
Followed by a camel clutch!
“Dou shita no? Kurushii no? - What will you do? Painful isn't it?” Ryo taunts as Saki cries out for help.
Just when things look to be in favor of Ryo, Saki breaks free from the technique. Now it is her turn to stomp her opponent!
As well as the signature move; single-leg crab!
“Saki ni hiza wo yatte kurun wa - I’m going to go for the knee first” Saki responds methodically.
[NOTE: Although both are spelled “Saki” in English, the meaning is different depending on the kanji. One version means “first” and the other is name.]
Ryo continues to struggle, as Saki delivers more trash talk. This match is going back and forth. Saki requests a tap, but Ryo won’t budge.
Saki eventually grows tired of using the same move, and picks up Ryo. Only to throw her down on the ground again.
Another forearm choke until...
Ryo reverses the momentum!
Ryo goes for the trusty camel clutch, taunting Saki as she pulls on her chin.
The camera zooms in on the anguish on Saki’s face.
Ryo drops the submission, adds in some stomps, but runs out of juice again, taking a rest on the other side of the ring.
This gives Saki time to get up. This is a mistake, giving Saki time to pull off a clothesline. Some stomps of her own to pepper Ryo with pain.
Saki seems to be going for a camel clutch but...
That too is reversed. Momentum is shifting constantly like an old clock.
Ryo jumps on to of Saki, deliver another forearm choke. Both fighters seem to like using the same moves.
This offensive continues until Saki throws Ryo off, reversing the tide once again.
This time, Saki goes for a successful armbar.
Ryo is reeling from the pain.
Just when it looks like Saki is taking over, Ryo breaks free. She picks up Saki from the mat. The flying kick connects!
Ryo lifts Saki again, but she is too weak to stand. Ryo dashes at her, and deliver a flying knee. Followed by another. Saki is getting pelted.
Another strike has Saki down. How many of these can she take?
Ryo tries to pick her up again but Saki manages to bring her opponent down to the mat.
A quick set of stomps and Saki is back in business.
“Dou shita no? - What are you going to do?” Saki taunts from the dominant position. This match is too close to call!
Ryo eventually breaks the hold, but she seems too exhausted to continue. Ryo is pant heavily, trying to maintain what little stamina she has left.
More stomps. Saki picks up Ryo, trying to think of a move to execute...
But Ryo counters with a high kick! A second high kick!
A leg sweep to put Saki back on the mat.
Ryo grabs hold of Saki again and locks in the choke.
Saki does her best to try and squirm out of the technique.
She seems to almost break free...
But ends up gassing out before breaking the hold. The bell sounds as Ryo is declared the winner in a match that went down to the wire.
Ryo is drained of energy despite getting the win, barely able to lift herself to her feet.
She did keep her promise however, saying that she wasn't going to win with by pin-fall. Saki gave her quite the challenge, but Ryo managed to tough it out in the end.
Overall, this was a good introduction to the world of pro-style by Fighting Impact. The competitors looked tough (and curvy - my goodness), the moves were realistic, and the camera angles gave onlookers the ability to look at every piece of the action. This is a bit of an older production, but it comes with a reduced price compared to some of the newer film works. Ultimately, this is a good series to have, adding more diversity to the BATTLE lineup, as well as your collection. Pick it up today. You won't be disappointed.
