As some of you know, I had to migrate this blog to another server. Apparently, after getting a message from FC2, I had only a few weeks to comply with their new standards, including giving out my ID. Where is the fun in that? LOL. No matter, on to business, I say.
Thanks to the wonderful individuals involved with DangerousCurves (known as DC from here on out), I have been granted access to review an earlier work courtesy of BATTLE. Although a bit dated, the attention to detail and the delivery of the match is something fans of this niche can undoubtedly enjoy.
Fighting out of the blue corner, we have the scrappy veteran, Chiharu Nakai. Standing in at barely under 5 feet, many opponents have underestimated her skills in the squared circle.
Entering into the ring in an outfit similar to a miko (shrine priestess), she peels out of the costume to reveal a pristine white Mizuno suit with matching wrist tape, kneepads, and boots with red trim. She looks poised and confident, ready to sharpen her skills in pro-style combat.
The red corner has Ion Atsumi standing opposite her opponent, confidently smirking under the arena lights.
Her London fog coat is carefully stripped away, showcasing a black Arena suit with double white stripes, matte-colored kneepads, and ash gray boots. White tape protects her wrist joints as the camera pans up and down her willowy frame. With her considerable height advantage, how well will she be able to utilize her physique?
The bell rings as both competitors lock up.
Chiharu swoops around her opponent, looking to execute a move.
Ion reverses, doing the same thing in return!
Chiharu reverses the reversal (see what I did there, LOL) with her agile figure.
Drop toe hold!
Followed up with a sitting headlock.
Ion quickly reverses the hold, going for what looks to be an arm drag.
Chiharu anticipates this and goes for an arm technique of her own.
Ion counters this, too!
Both seem to be evenly matched, respecting each other’s skills.
Another lock-up.
A test of strength. Chiharu pushes back against Ion.
But the taller opponent is not interested in strength contests, delivering a boot to the chest.
Chiharu topples to the ring while Ion sets up another move.
Rear naked choke!
Chiharu squirms in anguish and confusion, trying to get out of the hold.
She winces in pain, trying not to pass out.
Ion applies the pressure, but…
A lapse in judgment has the veteran out of the hold and on the offensive.
Fujiwara armbar, ladies and gents.
Ion cries out in agony as she kicks the canvas beneath her like she’s trying to swim on dry land. Chiharu keeps on the heat.
If Ion is not careful, the match could be over before it even starts.
“Nani ka shi nai wa yo! - You can’t do anything!” Chiharu taunts, knowing she has Ion in a bad situation.
With some muscle and dexterity showing, Ion flips out of the hold and has Chiharu on the ring floor.
Stomps across the back!
Followed up with a modified camel clutch type lock.
Chiharu winces in desperation, trying to clamor to the ropes.
Ion uses her lankier frame to dial in the submission, pulling on Chiharu with an unwavering force.
Different camera angles catch Chiharu trying to endure the assault, as Ion refuses to let up.
Moments pass by as Ion releases Chiharu from the carnage and tries to pick up her stretched opponent.
Counter dropkick! Chiharu is fighting back.
Bouncing off the ropes, Chiharu delivers another dropkick, forcing Ion out of the ring.
“Ganbatte ki nasai yo! - Come on! Bring it! (there’s a million translations, LOL).” Chiharu goads from inside the squared circle.
She might have talked too much, as Ion pulls a surprised Chiharu out onto the arena floor.
A couple of slams against the canvas edge has Chiharu reeling.
Flung back into the ring, Ion executes a few stomps.
Ion gets a few more strikes and taunts of her own until Chiharu stands up.
Ion charges at her opponent, but Chiharu ducks under the attack.
Chiharu grabs Ion by the waist, but it is too late as the black-suited competitor reverses the move.
Trying to execute something of her own, Ion goes for a technique.
Chiharu breaks free, delivering a few elbows to Ion’s chest.
What is this technique?
Boom! Stunner!
Ion slinks to the mat, clutching her jaw.
Chiharu talks at Ion with an authoritative tone. What is she setting up?
A figure-four leg lock, that’s what!
“Senpai, give up shi te mo ii desu yo! - Senpai* it’s okay to give up!” Chiharu bellows, locking her opponent deeper into the leg technique.
Ion is in bad shape, wincing and panting from the relentless onslaught.
“Shi nai wa yo! - I’m not (giving up)!” Ion responds defiantly.
Chiharu keeps the intensity, encouraging Ion to quit. Will she?
Ion tries to reach out for the ropes, but she is too far. She squiggles and squirms, but Chiharu maintains her grasp.
Chiharu requests for the give-up, but is rebuffed almost instantly by Ion.
Both are audibly whimpering, turning the once quiet arena into a contest of determination.
Ion pushes on Chiharu’s kneepad, but there is no budging. How will she get out of this web of trouble?
“Yamero! - Stop it!” Ion demands, but Chiharu is only interested in winning.
Ion’s whimpers began turning into slight screams, begging for someone - anyone - to get her out of this mess.
Who will break first?
“Ashi ha yaku ni naide kudasai! Hayaku give up shi te no hou ga ii desu yo! - Don’t use your legs anymore! The sooner you give up, the better!” Chiharu insists, knowing she has full control. Ion is not interested in that advice.
Ion continues to struggle…
While Chiharu runs out of stamina! Ion hung on and didn’t tap! Talk about one tough cookie, huh?
More taunting is heard as Chiharu sets up another move.
Stretch muffler! Those legs are taking some serious trauma. Ion better mount something before this match gets too out of hand.
Ion cries out more as Chiharu dominates the contest. Veteran experience at work.
Is this it?
No, sir. Chiharu is not quitting, changing up her tactics.
Surfboard stretch!
“Soro soro makete mittara dou desu ka? - It’s about time you lose soon?” Chiharu questions Ion, pulling her to oblivion. So far, she might be right, as Ion has not mounted a comeback.
As I said before, is this the end? It certainly is looking like it. Chiharu has submitted opponents early before. Will this be the same situation?
“Shibutoi desu yo! You’re stubborn!” Chiharu is getting tired of these antics.
She flips Ion over.
A leg drop, to go, please!
Chiharu slides on top of Ion, going for the cover. The ref slaps the mat from outside the ring.
1...
That leg is hooked sky high.
2...
Kick out! Ion still has gas in the tank!
Chiharu picks up her withered opponent, broken in half from the match.
Abdominal stretch dialed in!
“Senpai no waza de, shime no dou desu ka? - How about I end this with your technique?” Chiharu grunts, going for the flashy submission. But, my goodness, will Ion her tap to a technique she once taught to her smaller opponent?
Ion does not look to have any fight left.
But…
A reversal out of nowhere! Chiharu thought Ion was done! But “Senpai” isn’t going out like that.
Now Ion dials in the abdominal stretch, pulling Chiharu apart.
Chiharu is in trouble now, as she gasps and pants in exasperation and disappointment. She thought she had the match in her hands. How could this have happened?
Will Chiharu get swept under by the sudden change of momentum? Can Ion muscle her way into a come from behind victory? Well…here comes the cliffhanger, LOL. Please tune in next time for the final installment of the B-1 Tournament, where two titans battle it out for ring supremacy. You’ll like the second part. I can almost assure you.
