[NOTE: On the English site, the name is listed as “Kimi” but in the video, she is referred to as “Nozomi”. Just wanted to clarify!]
The second installment of the “Only Give Up!” series showcases two different competitors, “BATTLE-ing” (see what I did there?) for submission dominance. Frankly, I did not think I would enjoy this series as much as others, but the girls sold me. It wasn’t that I thought it would be a tedious bore. Far from it. It was more that my personal muse lies in the gripping and grappling of the contenders. From body presses to body slams, the thrill lies in the three-count, signaling the end of a match. At the same time, this series is fun, and if you find interest in such proclivities, you’ll enjoy every minute of the action.
Nozomi stands in the red corner, adorned in a simple azure-colored Arena suit with charcoal black Asics pads. Her footwear is an off-brand combination of hues, resembling a Chilean flag. Simple, elegant, and ready to get to work.
Rumi is in the blue corner, fighting in a gunmetal Asics outfit, with bright rose-tinted highlights. The knee and elbow pads are the same brand, except being solid white with red trimming. Chalky peppermint-colored boots complete the look.
After wreaking havoc on some male jobbers, the match opens with both competitors pushing each other while sharing in verbal trash talk.
“Nani surun dayo - what the hell are you doing?” Nozomi utters, retaliating from getting pushed.
The badgering continues until Rumi fakes out her opponent, sending Nozomi to the mat with an armlock. Unexpectedly, Nozomi cries out in anguish.
“Give up?” the referee asks, to which Nozomi refuses quickly.
“Shitsukoi ne! - You’re stubborn!” Rumi taunts her opponent as she maintains possession of the exposed arm.
This hold continues until Rumi switches up her tactics, executing a surfboard stretch. She has gotten hold of the momentum early. The referee speaks again.
“Nozomi, give up?” he questions, to which she objects.
Different camera angles showcase the action in the ring, as Nozomi clamors to break free. She sells the moves in a way that is eye-catching and believable to even the most obstinate of protractors.
She pants in exasperation as Rumi sits atop her back. The gunmetal-clad competitor pulls on Nozomi’s arms, stretching her spine and shoulders to their absolute limit. Nozomi is already in a trouble spot.
“Hanase! - let go!” Nozomi tries to negotiate with her captor, which falls on deaf ears.
Rumi is methodical in her punishment, alternating her set of practical moves. This strategy conserves her energy, putting more focus on attacking her opponent.
She switches to a camel clutch, capturing Nozomi in an iconic hold.
More cries are heard as Nozomi screams at her rival to let her go while the ref asks for a tap. Rumi is in complete control.
After holding the submission for a few moments longer, Rumi decides to relinquish her attack. Big mistake! Nozomi swoops behind her opponent, dialing in an abdominal stretch.
Nozomi swoops behind her opponent, dialing in an abdominal stretch.
“Yoku mo dete koreta ne! - how dare you say those things?” *maybe LOL Nozomi is exacting revenge.
The tables turn as Rumi gets flung down to the mat. She tries to clamor for the ropes, but Nozomi blocks the attempt. After dragging Rumi to the center of the ring, Nozomi executes a Boston crab. Rumi whimpers in agony as her legs are stretched to the ceiling.
The ref asks for a tap and is rebuffed.
Nozomi speaks: “Give shiro!”
“Urusei - Be quiet!” - Rumi has some fire, for sure.
With a sudden burst of energy, Rumi grabs the ropes, signaling a break in the submission.
Rumi tries to get back to her feet, only to be interrupted by Nozomi.
She slides Rumi through the ropes, choking her with a standing headlock. The referee asks Rumi if she wants to tap again.
“Kikare ten zo! - He’s asking you!” Nozomi chimes in, trying to secure the win. No dice, as Rumi doesn’t budge.
“Mattero yo! - wait (there!)” Nozomi commands, leaving Rumi draped over the ring ropes like laundry out to dry. Nozomi gets a running start, whipping off the other side of the ring to stomp on the back of Rumi.
Several blows cause Rumi to topple over into a heap of beaten sinew and flesh.
Nozomi pulls her prey back to the center of the ring and implements a figure four leg lock. Nozomi is not pulling any punches now!
The referee makes another appearance asking if Rumi wants to tap.
“Yatte miro! - do it!” Nozomi wants to end this thing as quickly as it started. Rumi continues to endure the punishment. The match will continue as scheduled.
This demotivates Nozomi since she relinquishes some of the pressure of the hold. Rumi takes advantage, rolling Nozomi over and breaking the submission.
As Nozomi tries to get her footing, Rumi is all over her, choking her rival with the ropes like experienced moments before. This assault seems to be a match fueled by retribution.
Rumi plants her foot on the lower back of Nozomi, pulling on her arms in the process. A sort of ring rope surfboard of sorts.
“Kurushii daro? - Painful, isn’t it?” Rumi trash talks.
These two are more chatty than the others in the first match. A mountain of trash talk accompanies the submission maneuvers, as both scrap and scrape to achieve ultimate victory.
After some time using the same technique, Rumi pulls her opponent through the ropes, forcing Nozomi to the ground.
Another hold is dialed in, which looks to be another surfboard stretch with Rumi seated on the canvas.
She wants to damage those arms and lower back. Nozomi is in a world of hurt as she shrieks in submission.
Even then, she doesn’t tap as the ref asks her to give up. Both competitors are going for the gusto here!
Rumi yanks on Nozomi even further, making her lay flat on the ring floor. Rumi wraps her legs around Nozomi, cutting off circulation to her brain. A neck scissors! Is this the end?
When it was looking to be all over, Nozomi has a surprising burst of stamina. A reversal is in the works.
Nozomi rolls right out of a submission into executing an ankle lock of her own. Rumi is reeling in pain but refuses to tap. This frustrates Nozomi as she drops the technique and goes for another hold. What could it be this time?
Nozomi sits between the left leg of Rumi, tucking it between her thighs. Nozomi stretches backward, placing Rumi into a headlock while holding on to her lower half.
Nozomi executes a modified STF (or what seems like it). Rumi scrambles to break free, whimpering from the force of the move. Nozomi holds on like her life depends on this match.
Multiple camera angles capture the action, as Nozomi leans to one side, still grasping on to Rumi. Rumi tried flipping her over, thinking it would break the hold. Instead, the movement ensured that Nozomi would ascertain an even tighter grip.
Nozomi screams at Rumi to give, but she shakes her head defiantly as the ref watches closely.
As valiant of a stand Rumi gives, it proves to be not enough, as her stamina drains, forcing her to tap.
The ref jumps in with lightning speed, breaking the hold and hoisting up Nozomi to declare her triumphant in her debut.
The match fades as both wrestlers catch their breath from sheer exhaustion.
Another day, another contest.
Overall, this match seemed a bit shorter than the previous production, but it was sufficient to keep you thoroughly entertained. The moves were more deliberate in their delivery, and the dialogue made the action flow naturally. Both Nozomi-chan and Rumi-chan look like they could be competitors outside of BATTLE, and they proved their mettle in the ring. If you are a submission enthusiast, you cannot go wrong with this early AKIBACOM production. I’m sure the ladies will appreciate you just as much.
