Yukiko Souma: T:153 cm / B:83cm / W:62cm / H:87cm
Maki Mitsui: T:153 cm / B:83cm / W:56cm / H:84cm
The final installment of the "Only Give Up!" series ends on a solid note as two more competitors enter the squared circle. With both girls being almost identical in size and stature, only the will to win can determine today's contest. I am not sure if some of you noticed, but the quality of the photos is sometimes hit and miss. Depending on how fast the girls are moving, the image will either be choppy or as smooth as the wrestlers in the ring. Hopefully, it will be the latter today.
Yukiko enters the ring first, wearing a carnation yellow Speedo with black Asics elbow and knee protectors. Her boots do not match the rest of her color scheme (since they are red, white, and blue), but she keeps the same footwear brand as she does the pads.
The challenger is Maki, coming to the ring in a blue stripes Asics suit with orange-colored highlights. The elbow pads have the brand name across the top, but the knee pads look to be a generic sort of protector. Her boots are white with blue and silver trim, carrying the same design as Onitsuka Tiger cross-trainers.
The male jobbers get owned, as usual, signaling the beginning of the main event.
The match bell rings as Maki charges at Yukiko.
Both grab each other, trying to pull off a technique.
The skirmish ends with Maki putting Yukiko on the mat. She tries to for a Boston crab but is countered by Yukiko.
Maki springs up quickly, trying to replicate her attack, only to have Yukiko force her to the canvas. Yukiko sinks in a headlock as Maki flails around in frustration. Maki gasps loudly as she tries to break the hold. Moments pass as Maki elbows Yukiko several times, breaking the submission.
She takes advantage of the sudden attack, executing a snap mare on Yukiko.
Maki picks up her opponent again and pulls off the same move on Yukiko. As Yukiko lays on the mat stunned, Maki catches her breath and follows up the attack with abdominal stomps.
Maki is in control of the momentum. After several strikes, Maki pulls Yukiko to the center of the ring.
After struggling to get hold of Yukiko, Maki executes a figure four leglock!
Yukiko tries to resist the technique, grunting in pain.
Yukiko manages to flip Maki over, reversing the move on her blue suit-wearing rival.
Maki squirms around in agony, looking to break free from the move she played a role in implementing.
After moments of enduring the submission, Maki reaches the ropes.
Both competitors stand, looking to grapple again. Maki is light on her feet, sending Yukiko to the mat once again.
The Boston crab is successful this time around, pulling Yukiko up to the sky.
Yukiko looks exasperated as she clamors for the ropes.
The ref signals the "rope break" as Yukiko grabs the ring with her right hand.
Maki pulls her adversary back into the middle of the ring and executes the same move.
Yukiko has not mounted an offense for some time now.
Is it over? Maki continues the onslaught, switching to a single-leg crab.
Maki pulls with all her might, giving Yukiko an unmerciful stretch.
Still, Yukiko isn't giving up, scooting over to grab the ropes again.
Maki is getting rather frustrated as she pulls Yukiko to the middle of the ring again.
As Maki goes for another submission, Yukiko gets a burst of energy and taunts Maki with a reversal.
Yet, Maki isn't going anywhere, as she sits on Yukiko and pins her wrists to the mat. Maki has an impressive offense so far, but let's hope she doesn't burn herself out too quickly.
Maki pulls off one of the elbow pads on Yukiko and executes an armlock.
Yukiko cries out, selling the move elegantly as the camera pans around to capture the action. Maki switches her offensive tactics, going for a sleeper hold.
Then a modified neck lock. Maki is dominating.
Moments pass as Maki squeezes the life out of her opponent.
Eventually, Maki picks up Yukiko and grabs her suit by the waist. With a heave, Maki executes a suplex (or brainbuster - whichever tickles your fancy).
Yukiko whimpers as her stamina is depleted with every move.
Maki executes another suplex.
Followed by another suplex.
Maki is pouring it on, stomping her rival's abdomen. Then choking her with a forearm. Followed by more punching of the abdomen.
“Give up?”
Can Yukiko even come back at this point?
Maki picks up the battered Yukiko. What's next? A cobra twist, that's what! Talk about pure domination! Maki squeezes and constricts her opponent, causing Yukiko to sink down into a lump of beaten flesh.
Another neck lock. This should be over soon, right?
Maki tries to pick up Yukiko but is met with a counter punch to the gut. Maki wrenches in pain as she retreats to the corner turnbuckle. Yukiko is on the offensive!
Several gut punches and shoulder blocks have Maki slumped into the corner. Yukiko takes advantage, stomping her adversary in the same manner, she was in moments earlier.
Yukiko plays dirty, slinking Maki through the ropes, stretching her back in a painful submission. The referee doesn't like this as he almost gives Yukiko the DQ for her antics.
Yukiko grabs Maki's neck and pulls, crushing her upper back with the force of the ropes.
The referee counts again, only to have Yukiko let go at the last second. One more stomp and flinging off the ropes has Maki back on the mat again.
Yukiko is panting and sweaty.
Yukiko grabs Maki again and executes another submission.
Not sure what this technique is, but I'll allow it. (LOL)
"Itai! - it hurts!" - Maki cries in a defeated tone.
Has Yukiko turned the tide?
Yukiko catches Maki in what looks like a chicken wing arm lock.
Maki continues to cry out how much it hurts.
Yukiko continues the carnage with stomps.
And a Boston crab of her own.
Both competitors are working to their absolute limits, and the exhaustion on their faces prove it.
Yukiko is getting pretty soaked, as her face and neck are covered in sweat.
How much more can both competitors take?
Yukiko folds her opponent's legs and goes for a...
Reverse sharpshooter (or scorpion death lock)!
Maki tries to endure with all her might...
While Yukiko is not letting go...
One of them is going to break first..but who will it be?
Yukiko is losing grip of the hold...
But Maki taps out!
Yukiko drops the hold and scrambles to her feet, trying to conserve what's left of her stamina. Maki is also panting heavily. She seems she wants to cry over the defeat but is too beaten and thrashed to do so. She can only look up at the competitor who bested her in the contest.
Collapsed in a lump of her own perspiration, Maki manages to make a comment on her performance.
"Shobu who Makeba, kuyashii! Kitanee yo! - If you lose a match, it is frustrating! Awful!" Maki wallows, still reeling from the competition. Perhaps she'll be victorious next time.
Overall, this was a great end to the "Only Give Up!" series, as each match got better than the last. The techniques were diverse, and the endings were left on a cliffhanger. The camera work shows some of the early days of BATTLE (courtesy of Real Cyborg) and how they were trying to eke a unique niche. Despite these films being a bit rough around the edges compared to more modern works, these particular matches have a unique charm that you can find anymore. The competitors seem "real," and the selling of the moves makes this series work adding to your collection. If you enjoy classic bouts with a simple but gripping appeal, you cannot go wrong with this series.
